Gibson Foundation Announces Support for Free the Children

Gibson Guitar, the world’s premier musical instrument manufacturer and leader in music technology, announced the Gibson Foundation’s support of Free The Children, the world’s largest network of children helping children. Gibson Foundation has pledged a five-year commitment, during which it will build five eight-room schoolhouses in five different provinces of China. These schools will aid thousands of children in China and bring a much-needed opportunity for primary education with qualified teachers. Each school will be equipped with textbooks, school furnishings, and a playground.

Gibson Foundation Offers Support to A Child’s Right

Non-profit relief organization A Child’s Right installed five water purification systems to orphanages and child welfare centers in China earlier this month with support provided by the Gibson Foundation. The water purification systems provide access to clean water for thousands of children, while also allowing newborns to receive formula made with purified water for the first time.

ISME and the Gibson Foundation announced the recipient of the ISME-Gibson Community Music Education Award, 2007 on May 11, during the ISME European Regional Conference organized in partnership with the EAS - European Association for Music in schools Congress, 2007. This ISME Regional Conference was held in Pitea, Sweden between the 10 and 13 May.

At their recent surprise concert at the Cannes Film Festival, U2’s the Edge played none other than his limited edition Music Rising Epiphone Les Paul Standard. Emblazoned with the phoenix design emblematic of Music Rising’s campaign to replace musical instruments lost or stolen in the Gulf Region hurricanes, the LP has become a favorite of the Edge, who co-founded the organization in 2005.

Icons of Music Sale Raises $2.5 million Partial Proceeds to Benefit Music Rising

John Lennon’s sunglasses, Kurt Cobain’s MTV Award, Bill Clinton’s sax―all were auctioned off Saturday at the Icons of Music auction in New York, with the centerpiece of the auction, The Edge’s ’75 cream Les Paul, going for a record $240,000. Administered by the Gibson Foundation and co-founded by The Edge, the Music Rising charity offered some of the most iconic rock memorabilia ever to the public. By the end of the event, which was standing room only, $2.5 million was raised a portion of which will go to Music Rising to aid professional musicians, students, and parishioners of the Gulf Coast region affected by Hurricanes Rita and Katrina.

U2’s The Edge has just announced next month’s Icons of Music Auction, which will offer one of the most significant collections of music memorabilia from many of music’s greatest legends.
