Gibson Foundation - Gibson Foundation Donates $25,000 to Nashville Symphony

Music Rising, a program administered by the Gibson Foundation and originally dedicated to rebuilding the Gulf Coast’s music programs following Hurricane Katrina, has expanded its reach with a $25,000 donation to the Nashville Symphony to help rebuild its Instrument Petting Zoo. An integral part of the Symphony’s music education program, the Instrument Petting Zoo is a collection of more than 50 instruments which were destroyed in the May flooding that affected much of the Middle Tennessee area, including the Symphony’s concert hall, Schermerhorn Symphony Center.

Music Rising Featured on FOX News

This weekend, FOX News aired a feature on Music Rising. Music Rising was founded by U2’s The Edge, legendary producer Bob Ezrin and Gibson Guitar Chairman and CEO Henry Juszkiewicz with the mission to replace lost or destroyed instruments for schools, churches, community programs and musicians of the Gulf Coast after Hurricane Katrina. The FOX News feature chronicles how Music Rising continues to help to resurrect the music scene that is such an integral part of New Orleans’ culture and economy. Music Rising is administered by the Gibson Foundation.

Guitar Town Sunset Strip Unveils Giant Gibson Guitar Sculptures

Guitar Town Sunset Strip, a public art project featuring 26 10-foot-tall Les Paul guitars placed along Hollywood’s famous Sunset Strip, was unveiled last week. The event kicked off with a ribbon-cutting ceremony and vintage car parade along Sunset Boulevard.

Gibson Works with Rainforest Alliance

As reported on Tonic.com, Gibson is working closely with the Rainforest Alliance to receive guidance on its wood sourcing. The goal is to, eventually, use only wood from Forest Stewardship Council-certified forests. In accordance with this program, the company has banned purchases of ebony and rosewood from Madagascar and has required that all wood purchases be from documented legal sources.

Cleveland Rocks!, presented by Gibson and Epiphone Guitar has announced the names of the first tier of 25 visual artists selected to take part in the public arts project to benefit local charities. Each artist selected will be given the opportunity to paint one of the playable Epiphone guitars which will later be displayed at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum and have the chance to be paired with one of the many legendary musicians who have also lent their support. These guitars, once completed, will be part of the first installment of guitars that will be exhibited at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum and auctioned off in a gala event to benefit local non-profits. In response to continued interest from the local arts community, Cleveland Rocks! will continue to accept artwork applications to be considered for the project through Monday, September 28th

Music Rising, a campaign founded in 2005 by U2’s the Edge, legendary producer Bob Ezrin and Gibson Guitar Chairman and CEO Henry Juszkiewicz, as an effort to aid musicians, schools and churches after the devastation of Hurricanes Katrina & Rita, announced its support of New Orleans All-Star Jam-Balaya events to be held at the Democratic and Republican Conventions. Kicking off in Denver on August 24 with the Democratic National Convention Committee’s Opening Night Reception and the Friends of New Orleans All-Star Jambalaya at The Filllmore Auditorium, this series of high profile concerts and events will culminate in Minneapolis on September 1, the first day of the Republican Convention, with the Friends of New Orleans All-Star Jam-balaya at the historic First Avenue music venue. These events, along with additional benefit shows in Aspen, Colorado and Jackson Hole, Wyoming will showcase the best of Louisiana food and music, while calling attention to the ongoing rebuilding efforts of the Gulf region and immediate need to prevent further loss of Louisiana’s coastal wetlands in order to preserve the rich cultural and musical history of New Orleans. Artists will be transported to all events by the exclusive Gibson Tour Bus, which will be available on location to the press as a site for interviews with artists and other VIPs.

The 2008 International Society of Music Education Conference took place in Bologna from July 21-25th. The Gibson Foundation supports ISME with two very special awards – the ISME-Gibson Music Education Awards, which are awarded every two years at the bi-annual conference; and the ISME-Gibson Community Music Awards, which are awarded on alternate years.
