Baldwin ConcertMaster™ first player system with MP3

Baldwin has introduced the piano industry's first MP3-capable computerized player system, an innovation that offers owners of the award-winning Baldwin ConcertMaster™ as much as ten hours of orchestrated music from a single CD that they can create from their home computer. The MP3 format, the favorite of internet users, compresses standard digital audio files into smaller files without a significant loss of quality.

"We fast-tracked the development of the MP3 system for the ConcertMaster™, not just to be the first company to offer this major technological advance, but to assure the piano world of our commitment to taking a great company to even greater heights," said Henry Juszkiewicz, chairman and CEO of Gibson Guitar Corp., which acquired Baldwin in November 2001. "With MP3 capability, ConcertMaster™ owners can now take advantage of all the new musical opportunities of the Internet Age."

Thanks to ConcertMaster's™ flexible open design, MP3 playback is available now for all ConcertMaster™ ATP2 900 Mhz systems. The MP3 upgrade kit includes a decoder PC board, Operating System Diskette and an MP3-encoded CD containing approximately ten hours of orchestrated music. Users will be able to create their own MP3 CDs on computers using widely available software programs and will also be able to see song titles displayed on the ConcertMaster™ remote controller.

The ConcertMaster™ MP3 system is also capable of copying song files to its internal hard drive (it's the only player piano system with an internal hard drive), playing real audio combined with MIDI information from the hard drive, and reading and playing thousands of MIDI files from a CD-ROM.

The Baldwin ConcertMaster™ Complete Player System won the prestigious "Best Product Technology" award at the Custom Electronic Design & Installation Association's 1998 Expo. CEDIA, an international association committed to enhancing lifestyles through technology, recognized the ConcertMaster™ for its exceptional, easy-to-use features and innovative technology.

Baldwin celebrates its 140th anniversary in 2002 by bringing together the leading-edge technology of the ConcertMaster™ MP3 system with the traditional values of craftsmanship and wood expertise that have made Baldwin pianos the ultimate in beauty and style.
