Orlando GuitarTown Unveils First Guitar As Project Prepares for Final Visual Artist Call

Orlando GuitarTown Unveils First Guitar As Project Prepares for Final Visual Artist Call

Deadline Approaches for Visual Artists to Submit Artwork to be Considered for Community Wide Arts and Entertainment Project

Orlando, Florida, July 11, 2008...  Gibson Guitar and the Downtown Arts District unveiled the first of the ten-foot Gibson Les Paul guitar sculptures as part of the Orlando GuitarTown project. The guitar sculpture which was placed at the City Arts Factory in downtown Orlando was painted by regional artist Tattood Bill Roberts over the period of the last few weeks. The guitar sculpture's completion also symbolizes the call for Visual Artists to submit their application and artwork to be considered. The deadline for the visual artist's applications is this Monday, July 14, 2008 at 5pm EDT.

The Orlando GuitarTown project is a celebration of art and music in the city of Orlando and all visual artists who participate will have the opportunity to be publicly recognized through their contribution of art and in all press and promotional materials and campaigns for the project.

Visual artists interested in submitting an application and artwork should download the forms at All original applications should be mailed or delivered to the Gibson Guitar Entertainment Relations Showroom in Orlando and include a detailed drawing concept using the guitar template provided. Visual artists can submit more than one proposal. Detailed information about the submission process can be found on the official website. No Visual applications will be considered after 5pm EDT on Monday, July 14, 2008.

All participating visual artists will receive a gift certificate for materials to help defray the cost, inclusion in the Orlando GuitarTown catalog, two tickets to the star-studded Orlando GuitarTown auction gala event in 2009 and eligibility to be featured on the official website, various press calls, and national media opportunities.

Orlando GuitarTown is a public arts project featuring 10-foot tall fiberglass Gibson Les Paul Guitar Sculptures that are to be artistically designed by Florida based visual artists and celebrities along with smaller Showcase Epiphone guitars. The guitar sculptures will be placed throughout Downtown Orlando in front of city landmarks and businesses which will serve as an artistic reminder and display of Orlando's great musical heritage. This is a great opportunity for Florida based visual artists and celebrities to be involved with a unique public arts project.

The project will showcase regional artists, musical artists, create partnerships in the community, promote tourism, and provide much needed funding for the charity. A series of ten-foot guitar sculptures will be painted by visual artists of the community and presented in an exclusive exhibit in the city. Once the exhibit has run for the selected amount of time, the sculptures and guitars will be auctioned off for charity in a gala event that is also live online and in broadcast. GuitarTown projects have been completed in Nashville, Austin and London and have resulted in huge media coverage, hundreds of thousands of dollars in funding for select charities, great celebrity involvement and additional opportunities for tourism.

Gibson Guitar and the Gibson Foundation along with a steering committee made up of "Who's Who" in the city of Orlando are honored to play a role in determining what art work makes its way onto one of these incredible sculptures. It is a simple concept but one that will have a huge impact in the community and provide enormous publicity and promotion for the visual artist.
