AUSTIN, TEXAS—March 6, 2007---Grammy-winning singer/songwriter Melissa Manchester signs Dream of Music, a showcase Gibson Guitar designed by visual artist Susan Sutherland. Manchester’s album When I Look Down That Road is in stores now, and music critics have ranked it as her best album yet.
“Wow! How beautiful--was my first thought when they handed me this creatively painted guitar to sign for the Austin GuitarTown project," says Manchester. "The detail and colors of the artwork are amazing. I may bid on this guitar myself since it is for such wonderful Austin causes.”
Seventy unique guitar sculptures, designed by local and talented visual artists, are being placed throughout the streets and businesses of Austin. Each is a one-of-a-kind piece of art depicting favorite musical or Texas themes. In the fall of 2007, the sculptures will be auctioned off to benefit four local charities: The Health Alliance for Austin Musicians (HAAM), The Austin Museum of Art (AMOA), American Youthworks, and the Austin Children's Museum.
